The Florida State women’s tennis team gave their best effort in trying to rebound from yesterday’s heart breaking loss to Miami, but the Lady Seminoles came up short, falling 2-5 to 37th ranked Florida International University in Miami.
The Florida State tandem of Jessica Balbuena and Samantha Schoeffel at No. 2 doubles defeated Alexandra Guzman and partner Cristina Campana 8-4 to start the day off for the `Noles. Alida Gallovits and Nanette Duxin teamed to get the 8-6 win over FIU’s Mariana Faustinelli and Anneliese Rose at the No. 1 doubles position to clinch the doubles point for Florida State.
Despite heading into the singles portion of the match with a 1-0 lead, the Seminoles could not hold on to the momentum. Christina Denny at No. 4 was the only player to get a singles win for FSU, as she defeated FIU’s Mariana Faustinelli in straight sets 6-1, 6-4.
Florida State now stands at 3-5 for the season but hope to get back on a winning track this upcoming week as the team will travel to Tampa for a match against the University of South Florida on Wednesday February 28th at 2 p.m.
