GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida State women’s tennis team fell to the University of Florida on Wednesday evening at the Ring Tennis Complex on the University of Florida campus. With the loss, the Seminoles fall to 5-3 on the season. While the Gators improve to 2-0 on the season.
The Gators swept the doubles matches, winning 8-4 at the no.1 and no.2 positions and 8-5 at the no. 3 doubles position. The only win for the Seminoles in the match came at the no. 6 singles position, when Florida’s Julia Scaringe defaulted due to an injury.
Four of the Gators that played in the match are ranked nationally in the ITA individual rankings, including no. 2 Jessica Lehnhoff, who defeated senior Jessica Balbuena (6-2, 6-1) at the no. 1 singles position. At the no. 2 singles position, Lindsey Dawaf, ranked no. 22 nationally, defeated Christina Denny with a score of 6-2, 6-2.
The Seminoles return to action Saturday, February 23rd when they travel to Alabama to take on the Jaguars of the University of South Alabama at 11 a.m.
