No. 46 Men’s Tennis Knocks Off Furman, 6-1

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The 46th-ranked Florida State Seminoles improved
their record to 12-9 on the season with a 6-1 victory over the Furman
Paladins on Saturday. Furman drops to 18-12 on the season.

Florida State won two of three doubles matches to claim the first
point of the match and take a 1-0 lead heading into the singles matches.
FSU’s wins were at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions where the Seminole tandem
of Luscan and Laub defeated Chesworth and Cameron by a score of 8-4 at No.
1 and the FSU duo of Travis and Schnell defeated the Furman tandem of
Parker and Nickell at No. 2 by a score of 8-5. Travis and Schnell improved
their record at No. 2 to 6-6 this season.

The top three singles positions were all won by Florida State. At
No. 1 singles, Florida State’s Xavier Luscan, the 50th-ranked player in the
country, defeated Lee Nickell from Furman by a score of 6-4, 6-2. Luscan’s
record at No. 1 singles improved to 14-7 heading into the final match of
his first year at Florida State. At No. 2 singles, FSU senior Mike Ingham,
the nation’s 97th-ranked player, defeated James Cameron in three sets, 6-7,
6-1, 6-4. Ingham heads into the final regular season match of his career
on Sunday with a record of 11-9 this spring.

Also earning a three-set victory was FSU sophomore Noah Schnell at
No. 3 singles. Schnell’s 7-6, 2-6, 6-4 victory over Drew Parker was his
second at the No. 3 position. FSU freshman Rodrigo Laub’s 6-3, 6-4 triumph
over the Paladin’s Patrick Gaughan was his second at the No. 5 position and
Seminole sophomore Jeff Scarella defeated James Mocckel at the No. 6
position by a score of 7-6, 6-4 to increase his season record to 5-5.

The Seminoles last match of the regular season will take place on
Sunday, April 16th, against Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Georgia.
