#5 FLORIDA STATE (38-12, 6-6 ACC)


Florida State swept then-No. 5 Georgia Tech last weekend to move up to No. 5 in this week’s Baseball Weekly/ESPN Coaches Poll. The Seminoles will play the next three weekends at home as NC State, Duke and Maryland visit Dick Howser Stadium. FSU wraps up the regular season at No. 1 Clemson before heading to St. Petersburg for the ACC Tournament. The Seminoles are led by senior All-American third baseman Ryan Barthelemy (.378, 12 HR, 65 RBI) and junior left-hander Matt Lynch (8-1, 3.81 ERA). Daniel Hodges has come on over the last two weeks out of the FSU bullpen, earning two saves at Miami two weeks ago and picking up another pair of saves last weekend against Georgia Tech. Hodges, who now has six saves on the season, leads the squad with a 2.49 ERA and 23 appearances. His ERA in ACC games is an impressive 1.23. Catcher Tony Richie is riding an a season-long eight-game hitting streak in which he is hitting .500 (14-for-28) with one homer, one triple, four doubles and 11 RBI.


NC STATE (26-17, 4-11 ACC)


The Wolfpack snapped a three-game losing streak with a 5-4 victory over Old Dominion Wednesday night. RHP Ryan Combs (0-0, 3.90 ERA), RHP Daniel Caldwell (6-5, 5.71 ERA) and LHP Mike Prochaska (4-1, 3.12 ERA) will make up the NC State rotation. Brian Wright is the team’s top hitter with a .410 batting average and 56 RBI. Colt Morton leads the team with nine home runs.


THE SERIES


Florida State leads the all-time series 30-14, which includes a 2-2 mark last year. The Seminoles won two of three at NC State and were eliminated from the ACC Tournament by the Wolfpack 8-4. Two years ago in Tallahassee, FSU lost the Friday night game 5-4, but bounced back to win 8-2 Saturday & 6-5 Sunday.


TELEVISION, RADIO & THE WEB


Friday’s 7:00 p.m. game will be televised live by Sunshine Network with Gene Deckerhoff and Tom Block calling the action. All three games will be carried live on the Seminole Baseball Radio Network, which consists of 12 affiliates across the state of Florida, including WFLA News Radio 1270 (FSU’s flagship station) in Tallahassee.
