No. 50 NC State Women’s Tennis Defeats No. 64 Florida State, 5-2

Raleigh, N.C. – The No. 50 Wolfpack women’s tennis team earned its first ACC win of the season on Saturday, March 25, by beating No. 64 Florida State, 5-2, at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center on NC State’s campus. The win marks the first time the team has had a victory over the Seminoles since 1998, when the Pack won, 5-4, in Tallahassee. With today’s success, NC State advances to 12-4 (1-3 ACC), as the Noles fall to 8-7
(1-4 ACC).


The red and white gained an early lead after securing the doubles point by winning two of the three matches. Sophomore Julia Roach and freshman Shona Lee fell to Nicola Slater and Whitney Eber, 8-6, at No. 2, while senior Nandita Chandrasekar and sophomore Elin Stahl Johansson overpowered Tapiwa Marobela and Alina Mihailescu, 8-3, at No. 3. Senior Barbara Orlay and freshman Alejandra Guerra took down Ania Rynarzewska and Suzanna Mansour, 8-5, at No. 1.


After winning the doubles point, the Wolfpack would go on to collect four more in singles bouts. Guerra overwhelmed Marobela, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 4, and Roach defeated Mansour, 6-2, 6-3, at No.5. Chandrasekar was taken down by Slater, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 3, while freshman Neils Barringer was overpowered by Lisa Nystrom-Skold, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 6. After entering the national singles poll this week, No. 123 Lee smoked Rynarzewska, 6-2, 6-1, and No. 118 Orlay battled hard against Mihailescu, winning 6-4, 2-6, 6-4, at No. 2.


The Pack will return to the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center on Sunday, March 26, for action against No. 7 Miami at 12 p.m.
