Tallahassee – The No. 54 ranked Florida State women’s tennis team (4-0, 0-0 ACC) extended its winning streak to four games beating the No. 75 Rice Owls (4-2) 5-1, at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center in Tallahassee on Saturday morning. The match, originally scheduled for Friday, February 6, was postponed due to inclement weather. The Noles played tournament style scoring with the first team to four points winning the match.

FSU jumped out to an early lead with junior Mihaela Moldovan (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) wrapping up the win at the number two position against Lauren Archer 6-0, 6-1 in 50 minutes. Shortly thereafter, newcomer Lindsay Deason (St. Petersburg, FL/Boca Raton) added the second team point, taking the match against Yasmin Fisher, 6-1, 6-1. Senior Christina Denny (Canton, Ohio/Bradenton) cruised to her fourth singles win of the season besting Tracie Chong, 6-2, 6-2 at the number three position. Despite allowing her first games of the season, the 2003 Lady Seminole Fall Classic Flight B winner has not been down in a match this season. Freshman Roxanne Clarke (Cape Town, South Africa/Clapham) lead in both her sets, finishing off Annie Goodrich 6-4, 6-1 to secure the victory for FSU.

Even with the win at hand for the Tribe, Rice continued to play hard at the number six spot pitting sophomore Alina Mihailescu (Constante, Romania/Mircea cel Batran) against Erika Villalobos. Mihailescu came back after being down the first set 3-6, to win 6-3 and 6-1. Mihailescu ran off eight straight games at one point in her comeback.

The only loss for FSU came at the hands of senior Anca Dumitrescu (Bucharest, Romania/VCU) who fought Blair Disesa at the number one position. Dumitrescu challenged Disesa, a quarterfinalist at the ITA Southwest Regional Championships, being edged slightly in two sets, 6-4, 6-3.
