No. 6 Seminoles Return to ACC Play at Duke

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The sixth-ranked Florida State (32-15, 14-6 ACC) baseball team makes its final regular season road trip in Atlantic Coast Conference play this weekend when it heads to Durham, NC, for a three-game set with Duke (29-20, 10-14 ACC) that begins Friday at 6 p.m. in the Durham Bulls Athletic Park
One significant change for the Seminoles’ this weekend is the pitching rotation opening with sophomore right-hander Drew Carlton (6-2, 3.98 ERA) for the first time this season. He will square off against Duke right hander Kellon Urbon (6-1, 2.63 ERA).
In his last outing, against Bowling Green, Carlton picked up his team-leading sixth win of the season as he tied his career-high in strikeouts (nine). The Lakeland, Fla., native scattered five hits and one walk over six innings against the Falcons.

FSU will send Cole Sands (4-4, 4.02 ERA) to the mound on Saturday at 1 p.m. Meanwhile, the Blue Devils will start lefty Trent Swart, who enters the contest with a 2-2 mark and a 3.60 ERA. Just as with Carlton, Sands posted a win against Bowling Green when he limited the Falcons’ lineup to three hits, while striking out five, in his longest outing of the season (six innings).
Seminoles head coach Mike Martin will close out the weekend with redshirt sophomore Ed Voyles (1-1, 2.84 ERA) on Sunday at 1 p.m. It will be Voyles’ third start of the season and first against an ACC squad. In his two previous starts, against UCF (March 23) and Florida (April 12), Voyles combined to fan four hitters, allow three walks and three earned runs.
Duke will counter with right-hander Brian McAfee (7-3, 3.31 ERA) on Sunday.
The games will be available on ESPN3 with commentary from Ryan Craig (color) and Ron Causey (play-by-play).
