No. 8 Florida State Baseball Shuts Down Maryland, 10-0

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Centerfielder Brian Cox belted a career-high four hits and knocked in a career-high four runs as he led the No. 8 Florida State Seminoles (28-8, 9-1 ACC) to a 10-0 win over Maryland (8-16-1, 1-11 ACC) at Dick Howser Stadium.

Freshman right-hander Nick Stocks (2-0) hurled seven shutout innings and struck out eight batters as he earned his second win of the season. Stocks allowed four hits and three walks in Florida State’s sixth shutout of the year. Relievers David Kelly and Scott Proctor combined to strike out three batters in the final two innings.

Cox hit a pair of RBI-doubles in the first and third innings and capped off his four-hit performance with a two-run homer in the eighth inning.

Right-hander Brandon Agamennone (2-5) surrendered eight runs on nine hits and four walks in 5 1/3 innings in the loss for Maryland. Agamennone fanned six batters in the outing.

Third baseman Jose Zabala and leftfielder George Otero both contributed two hits for the Seminoles.

Florida State has won 17 of its last 18 games. Catcher Jeremy Salazar extended his hitting streak to nine games, while rightfielder Matt Diaz’ hitting streak ended at 15 games with an 0-for-3 outing.
