Tallahassee, Fla. – The FSU women’s tennis team will look for its first ACC victory of the season against No. 21 Miami Wednesday afternoon at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center in Tallahassee. The Seminoles (7-4, 0-2) and Miami (4-4, 0-2) are both coming off a pair of losses on the road at No. 3 North Carolina and No. 6 Duke this past weekend.
In the last meeting between the Seminoles and Hurricanes, No. 73 and 10-seed Florida State pulled off a huge upset in beating No. 15 and 2-seed Miami 4-3 in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament in April. It was the third meeting of the season between the school’s, and just the Noles sixth win in 33 tries all-time against the Canes.
FSU senior Yukako Noi pulled out the clinching point last season, beating No. 74 Clementina Riobueno 7-6 (5), 1-6, 6-2 to send the Noles to the semifinals. FSU also got a win from sophomore Gabriella Castaneda on Court 4 against Silvia Fuentes, as well as wins on Court 6 and the doubles point.
This season, the Seminoles are led by seniors Daneika Borthwick and Noi at the top of the lineup. The Hurricanes are led by a pair of Top 10 players, No. 7 Sinead Lohan and No. 8 Stephanie Wagner.
After Wednesday’s match, the Seminoles will have 10 days off before facing No. 19 Clemson in South Carolina.
