TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Fifth-ranked Florida State (18-4-1) hosts No. 23 Texas A&M (15-6-3) Friday, November 20 at 7:00 p.m. in the Third Round of the 2009 NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament.
The Seminoles and Aggies will meet for just the third time on Friday and for the first time in the NCAA Tournament. The series is tied at 1-1-0 as each school successfully defended their home turf in regular season matchups contested back in 1999 and 2000. Texas A&M won the first game of the series in College Station by a 2-1 margin, while FSU avenged the loss a season later in Tallahassee with a 4-1 victory.

FSU is 26-8-2 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, while Texas A&M has posted a record of 23-14-2. The Seminoles are making their fifth straight appearance in the Round of 16 and eighth overall. FSU is 5-2-0 in third round action with victories over West Virginia, Illinois, California, Texas and Boston College. This is the 10th appearance for Texas A&M in the Round of 16 as the Aggies are 3-5-1 all-time. Texas A&M has advanced in its last two third round appearances including a 1-0 victory over Florida in Gainesville last year.
Big 12 schools are nothing new to FSU as the Seminoles have posted an all-time record of 4-4-1 collecting wins against Iowa State, Kansas, Texas and Texas A&M. Florida State is 3-0-1 at home against Big 12 foes. Texas A&M marks the second Big 12 opponent the Seminoles will face in the NCAA Tournament. FSU hosted Texas in the third round of the 2007 NCAA Tournament, a game won by the Seminoles 4-0.
FSU has taken advantage of playing in front of the home crowd this year posting a perfect 12-0-0 record inside the friendly confines of the Seminole Soccer Complex. Dating back to last season, the Seminoles are currently riding a school record 17-game home winning streak and are a perfect 17-0-0 at home all-time in the NCAA Tournament.
Friday’s third round match-up will also pit two of the nation’s top 10 winningest active coaches at the Division I level in FSU’s Mark Krikorian (.772 – 5th) and Texas A&M’s G. Guerrieri (.748 – 10th). The two coaches have combined for 563 wins in 35 seasons.
