Noles Begin Hunt for NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship Friday

Match Notes

GULF SHORES, Ala. – On Friday, May 4th, the Florida State beach volleyball team begins play in the NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship as the No. 4 seed. The Seminoles went 30-6 this season and undefeated in the CCSA to earn the fourth seed in the tournament for the second year in a row.

FSU opens play against the USC Women of Troy on Friday at 10:00 am CT (11 am EST). Southern Cal leads the series between the two teams 8-3, and beat the Seminoles once this season in a 3-2 decision at the East Meets West Challenge in Manhattan Beach. FSU has lost to USC twice at the NCAA Championship, including once in the 2016 finals match to give USC the first Championship title.

The Seminoles enter the NCAA Championship on an 18-match win streak, and continue to stay undefeated against East Coast teams since head coach Brooke Niles took over in 2016.

Florida State is one of just two programs in the nation (along with Pepperdine) to have played in every AVCA Championship (2012-15) and NCAA Championship (2016-18).

FSU saw seven opponents ranked in the AVCA Top-10 this season, with 18 matches taking place against teams ranked in the Top-15 with a 12-6 record in those matches. The Seminoles did not lose to a team currently ranked lower than sixth in the polls, and posted sweeps in 20 matches this season without being swept once.

This is the first time the CCSA has seen four teams selected for the NCAA Championship. FSU saw all seven teams in the event at least once during the regular season.
