‘Noles Close First Run Through ACC At NC State

FLORIDA STATE SEMINOLES

The Seminoles have lost four of their last five after dropping an 82-63 decision to No. 22 Maryland at home on Saturday. Ron Hale led FSU with 21 points despite shooting just 6-of-16 from the field. The Largo, Fla. native has scored at least 19 points in 14 of his last 23 ACC games…Hale is averaging 22.8 points on 55.9 percent shooting (33-of-59) in four conference road games. In three league games at home, he is averaging just 13.7 points on 35.3 percent shooting (12-of-34)…Florida State is 2-0 on Tobacco Road so far this season (winning at Wake Forest and North Carolina), guaranteeing at least a split of its four games in the state of North Carolina for the first time since the 1992-93 season. The Seminoles have gone winless through the state three times in its eight previous seasons in the league and have posted a winning record just once (3-1 in 1991-92)…FSU ranks eighth in the ACC in field goal defense in league games, allowing its opponents to hit 45.4 percent from the floor. In 11 non-conference games, Florida State limited its opponents to 37.9 percent shooting.

NC STATE WOLFPACK

14-4, 4-3 ACC


The Wolfpack is coming off a 79-68 home non-conference win over Arizona State on Saturday. Junior Damon Thornton led State with 23 points and eight rebounds in the game. The ‘Pack shot a season-best 57.4 percent from the field in the game (27-of-47)…Sophomore guard Anthony Grundy leads NC State in scoring at 13.4 points per game and is third in the ACC in steals at a 2.4 clip. Thornton is the only other Wolfpack player averaging in double figures (10.5 ppg) but four other players are averaging at least 8.0 points per contest…State is 13-0 in the new Entertainment and Sports Arena. The 13-game winning streak is the program’s longest at home since the 1988-89 season…The ‘Pack is allowing just 61.4 points per game, lowest in the ACC.

THE GAME

Wednesday’s game marks the 26th meeting between Florida State and NC State. The Seminoles own a 14-11 advantage in the all-time series, which dates back to Dec. 1, 1955…The two teams split their two regular season meetings last year with each school winning on its home floor…FSU won 71-59 on Jan. 23 in Tallahassee behind 25 points and 10 rebounds from Ron Hale. The Wolfpack responded with a 71-63 victory in Raleigh on Feb. 24 in the final ACC game in Reynolds Coliseum…Florida State is 12-7 against NC State since joining the ACC for the 1991-92 season. The Seminoles are 3-5 against State in Raleigh during that span…The Wolfpack enters the game tied for third place in the conference while FSU is tied for fifth…Florida State is trying to win at least four games in the first half of the ACC season for the fourth time since joining the league.
