TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Stan Jones, the Associate Head Coach for the Florida State Basketball team, continues to be heralded as one of the top assistant coaches in all of college basketball on an annual basis and was named as one of top 15 assistant coaches in the nation by FoxSports.com in a recent survey of coaching staffs of the high major Division I programs.
Jones is ranked No. 14 on Jason Belzer’s top 25 high-major assistant coaches and is one of only five coaches from the ACC ranked in the top 20. Long considered one of the top coaches in the game, Jones has been recognized numerous times during his career as one of the top collegiate assistant coaches.
In addition to being lauded by Belzer of CollegeInsider.com this summer, he was a semifinalist for the assistant coach of the year award in 2009 by BasketballScoop.com.
With Jones on the Seminoles’ bench, the Seminoles have won an average of 11.0 ACC games per season (regular season and ACC Tournament) in the last two seasons with at least 20 wins coming in four of the last five seasons. In addition, Jones has helped Florida State increase its victory total by 11 wins since his arrival in Tallahassee in 2002. Florida State ranks as the fourth winningest program in the ACC in the last four seasons with a cumulative record of 89-48 for a winning percentage of .650.
Jones has also coached three of the four All-ACC First Team selections at Florida State: Tim Pickett (2004), Al Thornton (2007), and Toney Douglas (2009) as well as seven NBA Draft Selections: Pickett, Thornton, Douglas, Von Wafer (in 2005), Alexander Johnson (in 2006) and Solomon Alabi and Ryan Reid this year.
