TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –The Florida State football team completed a full day of workouts this evening with a two-hour practice in shells. In the morning workout, the team scrimmaged for 2 1/2 hours. The team will continue with two a days on Tuesday going at 8:30 a.m. and again at 6:30 p.m.
The morning scrimmage was highlighted by two touchdown catches from freshman wide receiver Anquan Boldin. First, Chris Weinke connected with Boldin from 26 yards out and then Marcus Outzen hit Boldin for a seven-yard score later on.
“Boldin made some nice catches and had a good scrimmage,” said head coach Bobby Bowden. “He makes it look so effortless.”
Defensively, safety Sean Key returned an interception, tipped by Tommy Polley, 55 yards for a touchdown. Linebacker Brian Allen also recorded an interception and added a fumble recovery to his morning. Defensive linemen Jamal Reynolds and David Warren each recorded 2 1/2 sacks in the scrimmage.
“We still have a lot to do, but its little stuff, tying the ends together,” said Bowden. “We have to get those things squared away in the next 12 days.”
During the evening session the players spent most of the time practicing against simulated offenses and defenses of Louisiana Tech, their opponent on August 28.
“We came out this evening in shoulder pads and shorts and spent sometime on Louisiana Tech’s offensive and defensive sets,” said Bowden.
The practice concluded with 11-on-11 two-minute drills. That session was highlighted by safety Todd Frier’s hit on running back Nick Maddox. Other highlights included a couple of 20-yard completions, one from Chris Weinke to Peter Warrick and the other from Marcus Outzen to tight end Nick Franklin. Weinke also connected with Laveranues Coles on a 25-yard pass play.
Returning to practice this evening for the Seminoles were a pair of wide receivers Robert Morgan (right shoulder subluxation) and Talman Gardner (groin pull).
Injury Report from the morning scrimmage: Darnell Dockett (right shoulder AC separation) and Lamarr Parrish (sprained right ankle).
