TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) – Justin Gainey scored 16 points Sunday to lead North
Carolina State to a 70-51 victory over Florida State, snapping a seven-game
losing streak.

The Wolfpack (16-11, 6-10 Atlantic Coast Conference) trailed by one point
when they went on a 15-0 run that covered 9:29.

Ron Hale, the leading scorer for the Seminoles (11-16, 6-10) was held
scoreless for the the first time in more than two years.

Hale, a senior who was averaging 16.3 points going into the game, was
0-for-7 from the field and committed five turnovers.

The last time Hale was held scoreless was Jan. 28, 1998, also against North
Carolina State. Since then he had scored in 67 straight games.

North Carolina State’s defense also held in check Florida State’s three
other seniors – Damous Anderson, who scored seven points, Oliver Simmons, who
had nine, and Justin Mott, who scored two.

Damon Thornton added 14 points for the Wolfpack, while Anthony Grundy had 12
and Damien Wilkins 11.

Sunday’s game was the lowest point total of the season for Florida State.
They scored 54 points in losses to Duke, Clemson and Auburn.
