Noles Head to Baton Rouge

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Coming off a 2-1 weekend at the Stetson Beach Invitational in DeLand, the third-ranked Florida State Beach Volleyball team is back on the road once again this time heading to Baton Rouge, La., to face No. 10 Grand Canyon and No. 12 LSU on Saturday, April 2 at the Mango’s Beach Volleyball Club. All three schools will face each other on Saturday before the tournament concludes on Sunday, April 3 with a pairs bracket tournament.

FSU, who saw its 14-game match win streak come to a close last weekend against No. 5 Hawaii, will look to get back in the win column against the Lopes and Tigers in Baton Rouge this weekend. Of the 15 matches FSU has played so far this year, the Seminoles are 8-1 against ranked opponents including 5-1 against teams ranked in the top 10.

Florida State (14-1) will open the LSU Beach Invitational against Grand Canyon on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. (ET) followed immediately with its second match of the day against LSU at 6:00 p.m. (ET).

The Seminoles and Lopes will square-off for the second time in 2016 as FSU edged GCU 3-2 in Phoenix back on March 5. The match went the distance and was decided on court three as Vanessa Freire and Sierra Sanchez clinched the match with a three-set victory over Grand Canyon’s Brooke Razo and Emilee Erichsen, 19-21, 21-15, 15-11. FSU is 1-0 all-time against the Lopes.

Florida State will then face Coastal Collegiate Sports Association foe LSU to close out the tournament Saturday evening. FSU owns a 2-0 series record against LSU defeating the Tigers 5-0 in 2014 and 4-1 in 2015 as the two previous matches were both played in Tallahassee.

On Sunday, the three schools will compete in a pairs tournament beginning at 9:00 a.m. (ET). The tournament will feature two pairs brackets with bracket one featuring each teams’ first through fourth seeds, while bracket two will consists of each teams’ fifth through eighth seeds. The finals for each bracket is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. (ET).
