Noles Host Weekend Tripleheader

Tallahassee, Fla. – Florida State women’s tennis will host a trio of matches this weekend, beginning with Friday afternoon’s match against No. 53 Boston College (Friday, 4 PM) and ending with an Easter doubleheader against No. 12 Virginia (Sunday, 12 PM) and Troy (4:30 PM). All three matches are scheduled to take place at the Scott Spiecher Tennis Center, weather permitting.

The Seminoles (8-8, 0-6 ACC) are led by senior Daneika Borthwick, who rose to No. 55 in this week’s ITA singles rankings. She has knocked off a pair of Top 40 players this season, most recently No. 36 Johnnise Renaud of Georgia Tech on March 18. Borthwick pairs with fellow senior Yukako Noi to form the Seminoles’ top doubles team.

Boston College (7-7, 2-5 ACC) is led by two ranked players, No. 86 Asiya Dair and No. 113 Lexi Borr. Borr and Jackie Urbinati are the No. 64 doubles team in the country. FSU leads the all-time series, 10-2, but the Eagles won last year’s matchup against the Noles in Chestnut Hill, Mass. Borthwick, sophomore Gabriella Castaneda and junior Daniela Schippers won singles matches last season against Boston College.

No. 12 Virginia (10-6, 5-2 ACC) brings four ranked singles players to Tallahassee, led by No. 4 Danielle Collins from St. Petersburg. In doubles, Collins and Meghan Kelley rank 21st. The Seminoles lead the all-time series, 23-10, while the Cavaliers have won the past two matches, including last year’s 6-1 win in Charlottesville. Castaneda prevented the shutout with a straight-set win on Court 4 over Skylar Morton, who enters this year’s match 90th in the ITA rankings.

The second part of the Easter doubleheader is against Troy (9-4, 1-0 Sun Belt). FSU is undefeated against Troy in three all-time matches, with the last coming in 2013.
