`Noles In Fall Season Action

Sept. 24, 2009

Tallahassee, Fla. – After a portion of the team played in the Thomasville Invitational (Thomasville, Ga.) on September 11-13, most of the remaining team members began their fall season in tournaments this past weekend in the Cliff’s Fall Classic (Traveler’s Rest, S.C.) and Olympia Fields Country Club Invitational (Olympia Fields, Ill.).

Assistant coach Nick Crowell took Jean-Yves Aubone, Clint Bowles, Vahid Mirzadeh and Connor Smith to the greater Chicago area for the Olympia Fields Country Club Invitational on September 18-20. Day one was very successful for the group, as the doubles pairings of Aubone/Mirzadeh and Bowles/Smith each went 2-0 on the day. In singles action, Aubone, Mirzadeh and Smith each notched wins as well.

Day two was two rounds of singles play. All four Seminoles fought hard in their first match, but each fell in a losing effort. Coming back strong in the afternoon, all four members made the necessary changes and were victorious in their second matches of the day.

Day three saw some mixed success with Smith, Bowles and Aubone winning in singles play, but both double teams falling short in their only match of the afternoon. The match pairings were determined by the coaches each day, and due to this exhibition style, there was no overall winner. Aubone, however, was recognized as the Most Outstanding Player of the Invitational by going 3-1 in singles play and 2-1 in doubles.

Five players were led by assistant coach Mat Cloer to the Cliff’s Fall Classic in Travelers Rest, S.C. Freshmen Andres Bucaro, Anderson Reed and Aaron May joined sophomore Owen Long and senior Keith Embree in building their skills as the Seminoles continue their fall season. Day one saw Bucaro and Reed each winning their singles match, and the doubles pairing of May/Embree getting the victory in both of their matches while Bucaro/Reed split both of theirs.

Day two had only singles action, and the `Noles had mixed success on the court. Bucaro, Embree and May notched only one win each over the group’s nine matches on the day. The final day of competition featured singles play only. Bucaro, Reed, Embree and May each lost their matches.

The Seminoles come home and look to prepare for their only home tournament of the fall season, the Seminole Invitational, which will be held at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center on October 2-4. More information will be posted on Seminoles.com as the tournament approaches.
