Senior Drew Kittleson is in a tie for 11th place in the individual standings and the Florida State men’s golf team is in a tie for third place after two rounds of the 39th Annual Thunderbird Invitational at the Arizona State University Golf Course. Kittleson leads the Seminoles with a one under par total of 141 in his homecoming in Arizona. Kittleson grew up just over 10 miles from the ASU campus and was followed throughout the round by numerous family and friends.
Southern California leads No. 4 ranked San Diego State, the highest ranked team in the field, by nine strokes in the team standings heading into the final round. The Seminoles are in a tie for third place behind USC and San Diego State and are tied with Pepperdine – a trio of west coast teams. Nick Delio of Cal State Northridge leads the individual standings with a five under par total of 137 for the first two rounds. He carded a six under par score of 65 in the second round.
Kittleson (Scottsdale, Az.) led Florida State through the first round with an even par score of 71 and closed the day with a one under par score of 70. His score of one under par 141 has him tied with four other players (including teammate Joaquin Lolas) and only two strokes out of third place and only four strokes out of first place.
Kittleson scored a one under par 70 in second round after carding an even par 71 in the first round. He played his best golf on the back nine during his two rounds; he was a total of four under par on the back side of the course after finishing the front side a combined three over par. Kittleson totaled seven birdies during his 36 holes played on Saturday with all seven coming on the back side of the course.
Freshman Joaquin Lolas (Lima, Peru) is tied with Kittleson for 12th place after he carded the best round of the day – a three under par 68 – for the Seminoles in the second round. He carded a two over par 73 in the first round and was in a tie for 31st place after 18 holes. Lolas improved his score by five strokes and his individual placing by 19 places with his second round score.
Junior Brooks Koepka (Wellington, Fla.) is in a tie for 29th place after carding scores of 73 and 73 for a total of 145. Freshman Bjorn Hellgren (Vesteras, Sweden) is in a tie for 36th place after carding scores of 74 and 72.
The Seminoles will play their final round of the regular season before beginning preparations for the ACC Championship April 22-24 at the Old North State Club at Uwharrie Point in North Carolina.
