Noles Move Up Rankings In Singles, Doubles

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its latest singles and doubles rankings of the spring season late Tuesday, and the Florida State men’s tennis team was rewarded for its strong 9-2 start with five ranked players.

In doubles play, junior Benjamin Lock and sophomore Marco Nunez are ranked fourth in the nation, the highest ever for the Seminoles. Despite only playing one match this spring due to an injury to Lock, they have a 12-2 record on the year including wins over four ranked teams.

After finishing last season ranked No. 12 in the nation, senior Blake Davis and junior Dominic Cotrone return to the rankings. The duo is No. 51 with 10-3 overall record including a 7-1 mark this spring.

In singles play, junior Cristian Gonzalez Mendez enters the rankings for the first time in this career, sitting at No. 98, as he leads the team with a 17-2 mark. This spring he is 6-1.

After starting the season at No. 57, Cotrone reenters the rankings at No. 112. He has gone 8-3 this spring for a combined 11-5 mark this year. Lock dropped in the singles rankings after his injury knocked him out for the season is at No. 123.

Florida State is behind only three schools, Oklahoma (7), Illinois (6) and Georgia (6) with the highest amount of student-athletes ranked.
