The reigning ACC Men’s Basketball Champions will start the 2012-13 season ranked among the top 25 in the first USA Today Coaches Poll released today. The Florida State men are tied for 24th in the inaugural poll. The Seminoles closed out last season ranked No. 10 in the AP poll and No. 12 in the USA Today poll.
Florida State, which is the third winningest program in the ACC since the start of the 2005-06 season, returns four of its top five scorers and three of its top four rebounders including All-American and pre-season ACC Player of the Year candidate Michael Snaer from its 2012 ACC Championship team. Snaer, the Most Valuable Player of the 2012 ACC Tournament, has been named a pre-season First Team All-American by the editors of the Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook after averaging a career-high 14.0 points and making a career-high 67 3-point field goals in leading the Seminoles to their first ACC Championship, their school-record fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and to a 25-10 record during the 2011-12 season.
Florida State opens its 2012-13 season in the 12-team Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament which has the Seminoles facing South Alabama and Buffalo at home then travelling to play in the championship rounds at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y, Nov. 16-17. The four host teams (Florida State, BYU, Notre Dame and Saint Joseph’s) will all play two games at home and two games in Brooklyn. The Seminoles will face BYU in the semifinal round and either the Fighting Irish or the Hawks in the final round. Florida State is making its first ever appearance in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic which will be televised nationally on the TRU TV network.
