Noles Open Season Third in Coaches Poll

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The USA Today Coaches Poll was released Thursday, and Florida State will open the season ranked No. 3 when the season begins on Sept. 2. The Seminoles trail No. 1 Alabama and No. 2 Ohio State, while No. 4 USC and No. 5 Clemson round out the top five.

The Seminoles and Alabama open the season in Atlanta, Ga., at the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium. After facing the top-ranked Crimson Tide, FSU will also face the fifth-ranked Tigers, No. 16 Florida, No. 17 Louisville and No. 18 Miami. NC State and Syracuse also received votes.

Florida State finished the 2016 season ranked No. 8 with a 10-3 record and won the Orange Bowl over Michigan, who opens the 2017 season ranked No. 9. The Seminoles earned four first place votes.

This is the fourth time that FSU has opened the season ranked in the top five under head coach Jimbo Fisher, following the 2011 (5), 2014 (1) and 2016 (4) seasons.
