Noles Picked Second in ACC Atlantic

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida State, the defending ACC Tournament champions and winners of the Atlantic Coast Conference Atlantic Division eight of the last nine seasons, was voted by the league’s 14 head coaches to finish second to Louisville in the 2016 campaign. The Cardinals were a unanimous selection as the team to beat in both the Atlantic Division and in the conference, while Florida State was picked second in the division with 74 points, followed by NC State (72 points), Notre Dame (50), Clemson (46), Wake Forest (35), and Boston College (17).

Since the move to divisional play in 2006, the Seminoles have captured at least a share of the division title in eight of the nine years. Florida State has won the division title outright seven times (2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014), while sharing the title with Clemson in 2010.

Miami, which reached the College World Series last year, was named by 13 coaches as the likely Coastal Division winner. Defending national champion Virginia received one vote for first place in the division and was second with 80 points, followed by North Carolina (71), Georgia Tech (58), Duke (38), Virginia Tech (30), and Pitt (18).

Last year, seven ACC teams earned bids to the NCAA Championship, tied for the most from any conference, while four squads reached the Super Regionals.

The Seminoles drew top 25 rankings in the preseason polls by Collegiate Baseball (16th), Baseball America (17th), D1Baseball (20th) and Perfect Game (20th).

In total, eight different ACC teams have been ranked in the four national polls that have been announced so far (D1Baseball, Collegiate Baseball, Baseball America, and Perfect Game), including four that have earned spots in the Top 10.

Florida State is taking to Mike Martin Field at Dick Howser Stadium for its first official day of practice on Friday afternoon.
