Noles Ranked 17th in Preseason AVCA Poll

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State volleyball team received a 17th place ranking in the preseason polls released by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) on Thursday.

It marks the sixth time in the nine years under head coach Chris Poole that the Seminoles have entered the preseason ranked in the AVCA Top 20. The highest in that span came in 2012 when Florida State opened the campaign 12th, after reaching the Final Four the previous season.

The Noles are the highest ranked of the three Atlantic Coast Conference programs in the AVCA polls, ahead of 2016 league preseason favorite North Carolina (19th) and defending champion Louisville (23rd).

Florida State’s schedule currently consists of five AVCA Top 25 ranked teams including Minnesota (3rd—Sept. 3), Florida (10th—Sept. 14), Texas A&M (16th—Sept. 1), North Carolina (19th—Oct. 7 / Nov. 6) and Louisville (23rd—Sept. 25 / Oct. 28). All of those aforementioned programs, along with Miami, who the Seminoles face on Sept. 23 and Oct. 19, reached the 2015 NCAA Tournament.

“It is an honor for our program to be ranked among the Top 25 in the AVCA poll,” said Poole. “To have gained that type of respect from coaches across the nation says a lot about the program and players that we have in place. More importantly we are going to be tested early in our schedule, an example being third-ranked Minnesota in the fourth match of the season, so being consistent in our play will be vital for us.”

FSU fans will have their first opportunity to see the Seminoles on Saturday, Aug. 20 as part of the Garnet and Gold intrasquad match.

The Seminoles open the season on Saturday, August 27 when they head to UCF for a 1 p.m. match with the Knights.

FSU will make its official home debut on Sept. 8 when it squares off against Baylor as part of the Home2 Suites by Hilton-Tallahassee Seminole Tournament.
