TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –
The 2009-10 Florida State women’s basketball season has quickly arrived as the Seminoles will tip off against Valdosta State at 2 p.m. in the Tucker Center Sunday.
The Seminoles will take to the floor Sunday with three starters from a year ago, including preseason All-ACC selection Jacinta Monroe. Joining Monroe will be junior point guard Courtney Ward and senior guard Alysha Harvin. Florida State was picked No. 3 in the Atlantic Coast Conference as was announced by the league office on Monday.
Head coach Sue Semrau welcomed the local media to practice on Friday afternoon to see the team in action and discuss the upcoming season. The media joined in with the players at the end of practice for a shootout competition before Semrau and players addressed the media.
The Seminoles are coming off a stellar 26-8 campaign that saw them win 12 ACC contests and earn a share of the regular season title. Florida State will play just one exhibition before the regular season opener on November 13 when North Florida comes to Tallahassee.
Valdosta State is coming off a 21-9 season where it finished second in the Gulf South Conference East Division and advanced to the Division II NCAA Tournament. The Blazers were tabbed as the preseason favorite in the GSC East Division.
