TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The 10th-ranked Seminole duo of Marco Nunez and Benjamin Lock fell to USC’s No. 1 pair of Roberto Quiroz and Yannick Hanfmann, 4-6, 6-3, 10-0. The two Trojans helped USC win last seasons NCAA Championship and now advance to the final eight of the ITA All-American Championships.
“We came out really strong against a great USC team,” head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. “We took the first set and looked good. That team (Yannick and Hanfmann) is one of the best teams in the country, and they showed why in the tiebreaker.”
After taking the first set 6-4 and breaking the 19th-ranked Trojans twice after falling behind 4-3, Lock and Nunez dropped the second set 6-3 before running out of gas and dropping the tiebreaker, 10-0.
The Noles will take the court again in two weeks at the ITA Southeast Regionals in Athens, Ga. from Oct. 16-19.
