TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No.35 Florida State women’s tennis team will head to Gainesville, Fla. for the first two rounds of the NCAA Regionals which are set to begin May 11-12.

In their sixth-straight NCAA appearance, the Seminoles will face No. 31 Washington State in their first round match up. This match will be the first-ever contest between the two teams.

“I am very excited for our first round match against Washington State,” head coach Jennifer Hyde said. “They’re a team we haven’t seen and during this time of year, it’s great to have competition that you haven’t come across. You get to start fresh.”

The Seminoles closed out the regular season 12-9 before beating Virginia Tech in the first round of ACC Tournament. In the quarterfinal round, Florida State fell to No.8 North Carolina, moving to 13-10.

The Cougars finished the season 18-6 as they are coming off a loss to No.5 Stanford in the Pac-12 Tournament. Washington State is led by two ranked singles players in No. 50 Liumila Vasilieva (18-6) and No.108 Elisabeth Fournier (20-6).

“It will be good to be only a few hours away from home,” Hyde said. “Now we can move forward. We know what we’re preparing for and we’ll get ready in full-force for the end of the season.”

The first matches will take place on May 11 in Gainesville, Fla. and will be hosted by the University of Florida. The No.2 Gators will face South Carolina State in their first round dual. The winner of each match will play in the second round on May 12.

Florida State has one Sweet 16 appearance in 14 trips, coming in 2010 when the Seminoles defeated North Florida and South Carolina before falling to North Carolina. Last season, FSU defeated Southern in the first round before falling to SMU in the second round.
