TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State men’s tennis team was selected to their 10th consecutive NCAA Appearance tonight, May 1. The Seminoles (18-9) will be traveling to Georgia to face Boise State (26-6) in the first round of the NCAA tournament at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 12. Play will take place at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
“It is great that we have been able to make the tournament 10 years in a row,” said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. “Now we’re excited about going to Georgia. Georgia always does a great job of hosting the event. They make it feel like a final site even in the first and second rounds.”
This is the second meeting between Florida State and Boise State. The Seminoles won 4-0 two years ago in the first round of the 2010 NCAA Championships. If Florida State advances, they will face the winner of the Georgia (23-2)/South Carolina State (17-2) match on Sunday, May 13 at 2 p.m.
The Seminoles are having an outstanding season this year and have won nine more matches then last season. Leading the way for the team is junior Andres Bucaro who is 28-6 this season in singles and senior Jason Zafiros is 22-12 this year.
Four Seminoles each have 18 wins this year which includes juniors Jordan Kelly-Houston and Anderson Reed, sophomore Blake Davis and freshman Cristian Gonzalez Mendez. Freshman Benjamin Lock is 13-3 and Dominic Cotrone is 10-6. After only having one player with a winning record last season, all nine members of this year’s squad had winning records.
