TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State indoor volleyball team will play its fifth match of the spring season on Tuesday evening when it heads to Ozark, Alabama, to face Auburn at Carroll High School. The Seminoles, who opened the spring season by winning four of five sets against UCF on Feb. 24, before capturing victories against USF and West Florida in Tully Gymnasium three days later, are in search of their fourth win.
It is the first of two matches this week for Florida State, who concludes the spring campaign on Saturday, April 2 when the Seminoles welcome in-state rival Florida for a 12 p.m. match at Tully Gymnasium.
The team will be without the presence of captain Hailey Luke on Saturday, who will participating in beach volleyball events being held in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Therefore, rising sophomore setter Brianne Burkert, who handed out 63 assists and was responsible for seven kills in the matches on Feb. 27, will be running the 5-1 offense for Head Coach Chris Poole.
“This week will be a great finish to our spring training season with Auburn and Florida on the horizon,” said Poole. “Auburn beat the Gators in the fall and has a very good program. I expect both these matches to be a great challenge as we are thin in depth this spring with only five hitters. Therefore it will allow the coaches to see players under pressure and the way they will respond with no one able to come off the bench for assistance.”
