FSU vs. N.C. State Photo Gallery
Tallahassee, Fla. – The No. 29 Florida State women’s tennis team improved to 9-5 overall and 4-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference with a 7-0 victory over N.C. State, Friday, March 25, 2005 at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center in Tallahassee, Fla. FSU swept singles and doubles for the third time this season in the win. Florida State The Seminoles are 14-1 in conference doubles action and have outscored its league opponents, 28-7.
With the threat of rain, the Tribe started with singles before playing the doubles contests.
Playing at the number one position, #19 senior Mihaela Moldovan (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) bested Barbara Orlay, 6-3, 6-1. Sophomore co-captain Roxanne Clarke (Cape Town, South Africa/Clapham) won 6-1, 6-1 over Augustina Arachavaleta. In the three slot, junior Lindsay Deason (Ft. Myers, Fla./Boca Raton Prep) held Elin Stahl Johansson to three games in the 6-2, 6-1 win.
Junior Miranda Foley (Cambridge, England/Houston) and senior Amberly Tantee (Dana Point, Calif./Futures) won at the four and six positions, besting Danielle Stadelmann, 7-5, 6-1 and Carmen Torres, 6-1, 6-0, respectively.
Finishing last was freshman Tapiwa Marobela (Garborone, Botswana/Clapham) who took Julia Roach to three sets to complete the singles lineup sweep, 3-6, 7-6(3), 10-7.
In doubles, FSU swept all three doubles contest by scores of 8-5. At the number one position, Moldovan and Deason fought point for point with Orlay and Stahl Johansson through four games before closing out the match with four consecutive wins in the set. At the number two position, Clarke and Tantee ousted Arachvaleta amd Stadelmann winning the final two games in the set.
Despite playing three sets in the unseasonably hot temperatures in her single’s win, Marobela, paired with Foley, to take less than an hour to win at the number three position to complete the sweep.
