Noles Successful in Hermosa Beach

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –  Six members of the Florida State beach volleyball team turned in a combined total of 19 wins while playing two major tournaments in Hermosa Beach, Calif from July 11-17.Rising sophomore Macy Jerger placed second in the Women’s Under 21/23 division alongside her partner Ashley Allmer (LSU, Sarasota, Fla.) at the 2016 High Performance Beach Volleyball Championships while Eva Torruella and Brooke Kuhlman took home the title of the collegiate division at the BVCA Championships.

“Our players are getting some valuable experience competing this summer,” FSU head coach Brooke Niles said. “They are working really hard and competing all summer in the top tournaments around the country.”

As the Florida Region’s pair for the High Performance Championships from July 13-17, Jerger/Allmer  went 2-0 in pool play where they defeated Victoria Paranagua and Vanessa Freire, 22-20, 21-8 advancing them into the gold bracket.

Jerger and Allmer defeated Cannon/Dunn in straight sets before falling in the finals to Tan/Knudsen, 21-13, 21-10, placing second for the tournament.

Rising redshirt sophomore Breana Edwards advanced to the Gold Bracket out of pool 6 with a 2-0 showing alongside her partner Alexa Richardson of Stetson. The duo fell in the opening round of the bracket to Dunn/Cannon, 21-19, 21-17 and finished in fifth.

In addition to Jerger and Edwards, Victoria Paranagua and Vanessa Freire teamed up and posted a 4-1 showing en route to winning the silver bracket in a three-set thriller over Richards/Bauer. After dropping their first match to Allmer and Jerger in pool play, the rising juniors went 4-0 on their way to finishing seventh overall.

Prior to the High Performance Championships, Allmer and Jerger competed in the BVCA Collegiate Championships from July 11-15 with different partners.

Jerger paired with  Richardson  to win pool one behind a 4-0 record. The duo would post three more wins before dropping their final contest to Torruella and Kuhlman in the final, 25-21, 23-19.

Torruella and Kuhlman finished second in pool two, before riding a 5-0 winning streak to the title in the playoff.
