Noles Take Step Up In Competition At Conference Clash

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Back for a second consecutive week at the Birmingham Crossplex, Florida State’s indoor track & field teams will try and apply what they learned from last week’s season-opener against a vastly stronger field.

The Conference Clash: Power Five Invitational will pit eight SEC programs against a group of seven other Power Five conference programs in a dual-meet scored, two-day event, beginning Friday at 2 p.m. (CT). Auburn and Tennessee and co-hosting the event at the Crossplex, which will play host to the NCAA Division I Indoor National Championships.

The Seminoles will be joined by Arizona, Georgia Tech, Ohio State, Purdue, USC and Texas, making up the Power Five squad. Auburn, Alabama, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Tennessee and Vanderbilt will represent the SEC side.

While the meet will be scored – the top two finishers from each group for individual events and one relay team from each – the focus for the Seminoles will be building on last week’s debut at the UAB Blazer Invitational. FSU scored three event wins and posted six top 10 all-time school marks as 26 athletes made their debuts in garnet & gold.

Among the Noles scheduled for action Friday will be the men’s 60-meter dash freshmen trio of Darryl Haraway, Raheem Robinson and Edward Clarke, who ran the 200-meter dash last week. A week ago, Seminoles Meme Jean, Nicole Setterington and Melissa-Maree Farrington each logged FSU top 10 marks in the 60-meter hurdles. They will attempt to further lower those standards and be joined by Peta-Gay Williams and Grete Sadeiko in the preliminary rounds.

Another track event worth monitoring will be the women’s distance medley relay, where the quartet of Chelsea Jarvis, Shaquania Dorsett, Georgia Peel and Bridget Blake should contend for top honors.

Friday’s field event schedule will include the men’s high jump and senior Cristobal Hurtado-Arteaga, the men’s triple jump – with freshman Armani Wallace leading the way – and the women’s weight throw, where Sasha-Ann Lebert debuted with FSU’s No. 3 mark of all time last week.
