Noles Tie For Second At Inverness Intercollegiate

Sept. 18, 2012

TOLEDO, Ohio –The Florida State men’s golf team concluded its first tournament of the season by finishing in a three-way tie for second place in a 10 team field at the Inverness Intercollegiate. The team carded a 27-over total of 879 over two days and 54 holes at the Inverness Club. Senior Chase Seiffert tied for third to lead the Garnet and Gold.

“We have a long way to go right now,” said head coach Trey Jones. “It was one of the hardest golf courses on a day where it was windy, rainy and cold. Each player’s weaknesses were exposed during the day. That’s why we chose this tournament so we could show the guys what they need to work on so we have a clear idea of what they need to improve upon.”

Seiffert (Panama City, Fla.) played strong on the back nine as he made three birdies to finish the third round with a 2-over 73. He totaled a 3-over 216 en route to his third place finish.

“It’s a really good start to the season for Chase,” continued Jones. “You hate to lose a golf tournament by a shot but the impressive part was he was 3-over on the tournament and had a chance to win it. He played the tenth hole 4-over par and that’s an easier hole. After a double bogey, bogey start by our seniors we needed them to do what they did.”

Freshman Collin Engelhardt (Orlando, Fla.) finished the tournament in a tie for 20th along with senior Doug Letson (Tampa, Fla.). Engelhardt shot a 5-over 76 on the last day by making 11 pars and one birdie. Engelhardt finished the tournament with a 9-over 222. Letson carded a 6-over 77 on Tuesday and had consecutive birdies on holes 12 and 13. He matched Engelhardt’s 9-over 222 three-round total.

Finishing the tournament in a tie for 27th was junior Bjorn Hellgren. The Vasteras, Sweden native shot two birdies on the back nine for a 4-over 75 and finished with a three-round total of 11-over 224.

Freshman Hank Lebioda wrapped up the Seminoles’ lineup by carding a 13-over 226 for the tournament after a third round 8-over 79 total.

The Seminoles return to action when they travel to Alpharetta, Ga., to the Capital City Club for the Ping-Golfweek Preview which features 15 of the top teams in collegiate golf. Check back to for all your information on the golf team and follow the team at
