TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Boasting the best start to Atlantic Coast Conference play in program history, the No. 17 Florida State volleyball team welcomes N.C. State and North Carolina to Tully Gymnasium for two matches this weekend.
The Seminoles (17-2, 8-1 ACC) and Wolfpack (7-16, 0-8) match up on Friday at 7 p.m. and FSU will take on North Carolina two days after it plays at Miami on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The FSU-UNC game will serve as the Seminoles’ Paint it Pink match for the 2009 season and children five years of age through fifth grade are encouraged to register online at Seminoles.com for a post-match youth volleyball clinic on the court.
Florida State is coming off an impressive weekend on the road. After defeating Maryland and Boston College on both team’s respective home courts and losses by Duke and Georgia Tech over the weekend, the Seminoles find themselves in the driver’s seat in the ACC. At 8-1 in the conference, FSU is in first place and controls its destiny as the team aims for the second ACC championship in school history.
Currently ranked No. 17 in the AVCA Division I Coaches Poll for the second week in a row, the ‘Noles have a chance to make history early next week. Wins over N.C. State and North Carolina could potentially propel them to a No. 16 or higher ranking when the polls are released on Monday, which would be the highest ever in FSU history.
Friday’s match against the Wolfpack will be aired online as part of Seminoles.com All-Access. Sunday’s match against North Carolina will air live on Sun Sports as Tom Block and Dr. Cecile Reynaud will call all the action.
