GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida State women’s tennis team went undefeated in the singles draw of the 2016 ITA Southeast Regionals on Friday, posting five consecutive wins. Freshman Nandini Das defeated Rafaela Gomez of UNF 6-4, 6-1 while sophomore Ariana Rahmanparast bested Stetson’s Lucie Renault 6-0, 6-7, 6-3. Freshman Andrea Garcia beat Natalia Serrano of UCF 6-1, 6-3, sophomore Julia Mikulski bested Miami’s Clara Tamiela 6-2, 6-2 and senior Daniela Schippers defeated Tarani Kamoe of Georgia State 6-1, 6-4 for the clean sweep of the singles draw.
In the doubles draw, junior Gabby Castaneda and Mikulski earned a win against GSU’s Repe/de Winter 8-0 before falling to FIU’s Grib/Veksler 8-1 to split on the day.
Rahmanparast/Garcia would also split after a win over USF’s Bessanova/Martinez 8-4 followed by a loss to Georgia’s Gonzalez/Gould 8-5.
Das/Schippers fell to Georgia Tech’s Ostuka/Gizdova in a close match 8-7(7).
The winners of the singles and doubles draws will qualify for the 2016 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships.
The USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, considered the second leg of the collegiate Grand Slam, will be held Nov. 3-6 in Flushing Meadows, NY.
Singles play will continue after the doubles draws, which begin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday as the Seminoles aim to continue their hot streak.
Play will continue until the finals on Monday Oct. 24.
