TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Members from the Florida State swimming and diving team took a break from training in order to volunteer at the 2016 USA Triathlon Splash and Dash on Sunday at the Morcom Aquatics Center.
“It’s great that those guys gave back,” FSU head diving coach John Proctor said. “At Morcom, we’ve got a lot of kids that use this facility and they all look up to our athletes and it’s imperative they set a good example. Hopefully we can continue this trend for the rest of the summer and throughout the upcoming school year.”
Rising sophomores Summer Finke, Meg Brown, Natalie Purnell along with juniors Jake Urbano, Chad Mylin and Connor Kalisz were on hand to encourage and assist athletes from ages 5-15 during their races, while helping with other event operations.
“I loved helping out at this event,” rising senior Caroline Neil said. “It’s a very humbling experience. These athletes look up to us and other Seminoles and it feels great to give back to them.”
This was the second event of the Tallahassee Youth Triathlon series. The Seminoles will look to contribute towards the final event of the three-part series, which is scheduled for Sept. 4 at 8 a.m.
