TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State (32-18, 11-12 ACC) will host Wake Forest (33-15, 15-9) for a three-game series beginning Friday on Mike Martin Field at Dick Howser Stadium. The Seminoles bring a five-game winning streak into the weekend after beating Jacksonville 21-2 on Tuesday behind a pair of home runs from freshman Drew Mendoza. Friday and Saturday’s games will begin at 6:00 p.m., with Sunday’s finale starting at 1:00 p.m.
Friday night’s game will be Senior Day for Florida State as six players will play their final regular season series in Tallahassee this weekend. Quincy Nieporte, Matt Henderson, Alec Byrd, Jim Voyles, Hank Truluck and Bryan Bussey will all be honored prior to the game.
On Saturday, FSU will recognize the graduating players with an on-field ceremony with university president John Thrasher. The seniors will be joined by Andrew Karp and Will Zirzow in earning their degrees after missing last weekend’s commencement ceremonies due to the series against Pacific.
On Sunday, FSU will celebrate Mother’s Day and have the player’s mother’s and grandmother’s on the field before the game.
In Tuesday’s 21-2 win over Jacksonville, Florida State recorded 17 hits and 11 walks, and 12 different players recorded at least one hit. Dylan Busby was 3-for-3 with two walks and has reached base in seven consecutive plate appearances. Zirzow earned the win, pitching four innings and striking out three as FSU scored more than 20 runs for the first time since early in the 2016 season.
Wake Forest won the series against the Seminoles last season, taking 2-of-3 in Winston-Salem. The Demon Deacons enter the weekend ranked in all six polls nationally and lead the country in home runs with 82.
