GREENSBORO, N.C. – A school record and a pair of breaststroke wins against fourth-ranked Florida helped propel freshman Tiffany Oliver and senior Rob Holderness to earn ACC Performer of the Week awards on Tuesday.
“They are the two most deserving of this award although we’ve had so many good performances in the past couple of weeks,” FSU head coach Neil Harper said. “I’m happy for those two and I’m really pleased to already be raising the bar and setting new records at this point of the season.”
Oliver registered a first-place finish in the 100 free with a program-best time of 49.26 during the Seminoles landmark victory against defending National Champion Florida. She also finished second in the 50 free with a time of 22.84. Both times were NCAA provisional qualifying marks. The Southwest Ranches, Fla., native anchored the winning 200 medley relay that posted a provisional time of 1:40.89 to open the dual meet. Oliver also led off in the 400 free relay as the Seminoles clinched the event with another provisional time of 3:20.21.
Holderness took the top spot in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke events as FSU topped then-No. 4 Florida, 184-116. His times of 53.99 in the 100 and 1:56.36 in the 200 were both NCAA provisional marks. The Butleigh, Somerset, England, native also swam a leg of the victorious 200 medley relay, which posted a provisional time of 1:28.98. Holderness currently holds the top time in the NCAA this year in the 200 breast.
Florida State will head to Naples, Fla., in December for its annual training trip before returning to dual meet action on January 8, at the Morcom Aquatic Center against Georgia Tech and UNC-Wilmington.
