Oregon Forces ‘If’ Game With 1-0 Win Over Florida State

May 23, 2004

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State ace Jessica van der Linden gave up just two hits to Oregon but the Ducks made the most of them scoring the only run of the game in the fourth inning, forcing a second game with a 1-0 victory over Florida State Sunday in the 2004 NCAA Division I Softball Tallahassee Regional at the Seminole Softball Complex. Oregon improved to 42-20 while FSU fell to 60-10.

Oregon leadoff hitter Beth Boskovich drew a walk to lead off the fourth inning and advanced to second on a one-out single to left center by Ashley Richards. Jenn Poore fouled out to FSU catcher Elisa Vasquez for the second out. Boskovich scored from second when designated player Dani Baird singled down the right field line. There was a play at the plate but Boskovich apparently slid under the tag.

FSU had runners in scoring position in the third inning. Beth Wade led off with a double to left field. Pinch-runner Carey Galuppi was sacrificed to third but was stranded when LaShaun Davis struck out and Veronica Wootson popped out. In the Seminole seventh, the Tribe again threatened. FSU had the bases loaded with one out thanks to singles by Lesley Palmer and Tatiana George and an intentional walk to Wade but the Seminoles could not plate the runners. FSU had four hits in the game.

Oregon’s Ani Nyhus pitched the complete game and struck out four while walking just one. She improved to 25-12 with her fourth win and third shutout of the regional. van der Linden struck out seven and walked just two in six innings of work. Her record went to 27-7.
