TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Top-20 powers will collide Wednesday night as the No. 16 Florida State softball team will host rival No. 3 Florida in a doubleheader at the Seminole Softball Complex.
All the action gets started with a 5:06 p.m. first pitch and the second game will take place 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first contest.
Admission, as always, is free and Seminole fans are encouraged to come out and support the ‘Noles as the program looks to not only shut down UF but also set a new park attendance record.
Florida State (36-8) enters Wednesday’s showdown after a weekend in which the team went 2-1 against conference foe NC State. Florida makes the short drive northwest to Tallahassee following a three-game sweep of Arkansas.
The Seminoles are led offensively by superstar centerfielder Carly Wynn. FSU’s senior team captain currently boasts a .415 batting average, .690 slugging percentage and leads the Atlantic Coast Conference in doubles and triples.
In the circle, the `Noles possess one of the best one-two punches in all of college softball. USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Award finalist Sarah Hamilton’s 1.04 ERA leads the team and senior standout Terese Gober is not far behind with an ERA of 1.46.
As for UF (30-4), the Gators are paced offensively by Michelle Moultrie and Francesca Enea, who both have a .394 batting average.
Stephanie Brombacher has 20 wins and four losses in the circle for Florida.
The first game Wednesday will be aired live on Fox Sports Florida (channel 29 in Tallahassee/check local listings in other areas).
