TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – A second and final-round 69 (-3) elevated Florida State Men’s Golf freshman John Pak to a Top-5 finish on Monday at the Southern Intercollegiate, tying for fourth with a 1-under 143 (74-69).
Pak earned his third Top-5 finish of the year on Monday at Athens Country Club, using five birdies to his advantage in his final round to climb up 12 spots from 16th to fourth place. The Southern Intercollegiate consists of just two rounds and is an all-day event.
His second-round 69 included birdies on three of his first seven holes on the back nine. Three of his five sub-par holes were par 4s, while the other two were par 5s. He shaved five strokes from his first-round 74.
Florida State shot an 8-over 592 (296-296), placing fifth among the 18-team field. FSU, which was ranked 19th, finished behind first-place Arkansas (-9), Kennesaw State (+8), tournament host Georgia (+8) and Lipscomb (+12).
Redshirt senior Harry Ellis tied for 16th with a 3-over 147 (72-75). Sophomore Greyson Porter had a solid showing, tying for 24th with a 6-over 150 (74-76). Freshman Parker Reddig tied for 36th at 8-over, while sophomore Jamie Li shot 12-over.
With the help of Pak, Florida State shot just 5-over on par 4 holes, the lowest among any team. Ellis was 2-under on the day in par 4 holes.
Florida State returns to the competitive Valspar Collegiate Invitational held in Palm City, Fla., from March 18-20. The tournament routinely features many of the best collegiate golf programs in the country.
