TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – Freshman John Pak shot a 69 for the second straight day as No. 23 Florida State Men’s Golf worked its way up the leaderboard, tying for third through two rounds at the Valspar Collegiate at Floridian Golf Club in Palm City, Fla.
Pak is tied for sixth at 4-under, continuing to merit his Top 25 individual ranking by Golfstat. He capitalized off the back nine on Monday with three birdies, with two coming on par 4 holes while one was on a 529-yard par 5 hole. The Scotch Plains, N.J., native is six shots back of leader Viktor Hovland (-10) of Oklahoma State.
On a difficult golf course, Pak continues to play it safe with 26 pars through the first two rounds, tying for the fourth-most among all players. His 3-under total on par 4 holes is also tied for third.
FSU shot a collective 278 on Monday, eight strokes less than Sunday’s first round.
Sophomore Jamie Li also shot a 2-under 69, and is tied for 13th overall. Sophomore Jake Carter used three front-nine birdies to shoot an even-par 71. He is tied for 25th at 1-over, providing FSU a nice boost among its counting scores.
Redshirt senior Harry Ellis shot a 1-over 72 on Monday and is tied for 40th at 3-over.
Oklahoma State continues to lead the tournament at 17-under, while Baylor (-5) is the only other team in front of the Seminoles. FSU is tied with Texas A&M.
Tuesday’s final round will be another shot-gun start beginning at 8:30 a.m.
