LUBBOCK, Texas – Florida State’s Sean Gilmartin and John Gast are two of 49 student-athletes named to the watch list for the 2010 National Pitcher of the Year Award as announced by the College Baseball Foundation.
The Pitcher of the Year Award will be presented in Lubbock, Texas, on July 2 as part of the College Baseball Awards Show.
Florida State is one of 11 schools to be represented by more than one student-athlete on the first watch list of the season, while Gilmartin and Gast are two of six ACC pitchers to make the list.
Both Seminole pitchers are off to a great start with a pair of 3-1 records as the duo rank in the top five in the ACC in wins and in the top 16 in ERA. In five starts, Gilmartin has registered 34 strikeouts in 32.0 innings of work, while Gast has 21 strikeouts and is holding opponents to a .258 average in 26.1 innings pitched.
This is the second year the CBF will present the Pitcher of the Year Award. The College Baseball Awards Show is part of a nearly weeklong schedule of festivities sponsored by the College Baseball Foundation. The events also include the induction ceremony for the National College Baseball Hall of Fame.
