May 21, 2008

Second round play at the 2008 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Tournament on the Champions Course at the University of New Mexico Golf Club was suspended after two delays because of excessive wind on the course.

Florida State’s Caroline Westrup had played two holes (Nos. 10 and 11) and hit her first shot on Hole No. 12 when play was suspended for the second time. She is at even par and currently in a tie for eighth place in the individual standings. Play will resume Thursday morning at 7:00 a.m. MDT at the point where play was suspended. Westrup has moved to within four strokes of Southern California’s Belen Mozo who is the current medalist. Mozo played in the first wave of the day and has completed play in the second round.

A total of 46 of the 123 golfers in the field have finished the second round.

The round was suspended twice with the first stoppage of play coming at 1:10 local time and lasting for 2:05. The second and final stoppage of the day came at 4:55 local time and the round was suspended for the day at that point. The wind was gusting at upwards of 60 miles per hour
