WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. –
The time is here. The practice rounds are finished. The rules have been read. The tee times and playing partners are set. After a long year of practice, lifting weights, traveling and playing, the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Tournament begins Tuesday morning.
For the members of the Seminole women’s golf team, this is the event they have been working towards since classes and practice began in September. Before the first round began, the five Florida State players stopped by to discuss their emotions and feelings in anticipation of the biggest tournament of the season.
“I’m surprised that I’m not more nervous than I should be. I feel like this is another tournament. We deserve to be here, we have worked hard to be here, we are a part of the elite field of the best college teams in the nation. I am excited for us to show our stuff and to compete with the “big dogs.” We have had two good days of practice, it’s now our time to play and do what we do best. This is the epitome of college golf, and it’s just another tournament where we have fun, be ourselves, and play our games.”
“Nationals at Purdue.” I can still not say that without a smile on my face. This tournament is what we have been working for the whole year. I am very excited to be here, and I am so glad that the course is in such a good condition. Tomorrow is going to be a big day and I am really looking forward to the first day. We all have the ability to shoot low, so if we just go out there and have fun and play our game I think that will lead us a long way.”
“I am extremely excited to start playing tomorrow. It feels as if we have already been here forever and I believe that everyone is ready to go and play! Hopefully this golf course will set up well for us as a team and we can really show everyone that we deserve to be here and have a great start.”
“It seems like we have been here for weeks waiting for this tournament to start. It will be great to get out there tomorrow and start our round. After the second practice round today, I feel more confident about my game. Hopefully the rain in the forecast will pass by quickly and we can start playing.”
“We have now been in Indiana for three days and have we started to play yet?? No! Tomorrow we start, we’ve had a few good days to acclimate ourselves to the different weather conditions and links style course which we are now ready to play. I can’t wait to tee it up!”
