SECOND HALF NOTES

Streaks Stops

Graham Gano’s streak of field goals made was stopped tonight when he missed a 50-yard attempt early in the third quarter.  With his 39-yard field goal in the second quarter, Gano had hit 18 in a row before the miss.  The only two field goals Gano has missed this year have been from 50 or more yards as he missed a 52-yard attempt in the Wake Forest game.

Go Graham Go

Graham Gano has now recorded two career rushes off of fake punts and both have been for 24 yards.  His first was at Virginia Tech last year in the first quarter.  Florida State kicker Gary Cismesia then made a 39-yard field goal.  Tonight’s 24 yard run resulted in seven points as on the very next play, Preston Parker connected with Greg Carr for a 19-yard touchdown.

Parker’s Pass

Preston Parker now has two career pass completions and both have come against Boston College.  In last year’s game, Parker completed a 17-yard pass to De’Cody Fagg in the third quarter.  The Seminoles went on to miss a 47-yard field goal on that drive.  Tonight’s 19-yard touchdown pass to Greg Carr was Parker’s first career passing TD.

Carr And Homecoming

Greg Carr and Homecoming just seem to go together.  Tonight’s 19-yard touchdown reception marks Carr’s fourth touchdown in Homecoming games. Carr finished the game with two receptions for 40 yards.  Carr now has eight receptions for 140 yards and four touchdowns in three career Homecoming games. He did not play in last year’s game against Duke.

Interceptions On The Year

Darius McClure recorded his first career interception in tonight’s fourth quarter.  The Seminoles have now recorded an interception in fives games this season and are 3-2 in the five games.  FSU has seven interceptions on the year.

Homecoming Sorrows

After tonight’s game, Florida State is now 21-4 in Homecoming games. The last time Florida State lost was in 2001 against NC State, who was coached by current Seminole linebackers coach Chuck Amato. Florida State lost the game 34-28.

Onside Kick

After scoring on its first drive, Boston College recovered an onside kick (the kick went 13 yards).  Before tonight’s game, the last time an FSU opponent recovered an onside kick was Clemson in Tallahassee on October 3, 2002.  In that game, after Clemson tied the contest 7-7 in the first quarter, the ensuing kickoff was an onside kick that went 16 yards and the Tigers recovered and went on to score a touchdown on a two-yard carry.  Boston College failed to score on their post-onside kick drive tonight.

We’ve Fallen … Can We Get Up?

Florida State’s opponents have scored first in five games this season, including tonight’s contest.  FSU is 3-1 in those four previous games.  Boston College’s touchdown on the first drive of the game marked the fifth straight contest that the Seminoles have found themselves behind.  Last week vs. Clemson, the Tigers took a 10-0 lead.  At Georgia Tech, the Seminoles scored first but then fell behind 24-10 in the second quarter.  In the Virginia Tech game, the Hokies scored the game’s first 10 points.  In Raleigh, vs. NC State, the Wolfpack took a 10-0 lead.  FSU came back to win three of those games.
