Recap | Box Score

FSU Head Coach Leonard Hamilton:
“This game was a tremendous test for us because Ole Miss had obviously shown that they have a lot more experience than we do. They stuck with their game plan and executed very well. Even when they got down in the first half, I thought they did a very good job of sticking with the game plan, moving the ball, reversing the ball repeatedly and breaking down our defensive pressure.”

“They scored on seven-straight possessions and that is not something we’ve been accustom to giving up. It’s more of a complement to them on how well they executed, as oppose to how poorly we played. They did an outstanding job of moving and reversing the ball and attacking the basket.”

“Hopefully we can take this game and learn from it. We’re a team that still is trying to find the right type of rhythm offensively. Tonight we were able to establish somewhat of an inside attack with AJ (Alex Johnson). We’re glad to see him coming around a little bit. That’s part of the development process that any freshman goes through. He did a nice job of stepping up.”

“Even though I’m sure we’ll look back and find some things we could improve, I’m happy that we’ve come away with a victory against a team that is seasoned, been the postseason six of the last seven seasons, who has a system in place that challenges the type of system we have and we bended an awful lot, but we didn’t break in the end.”

“AJ has shown signs all year long that he is capable of having this type of game. Obviously he’s rounding into shape, learning our defensive and offensive system. He’s making the adjustment of being able to play with his teammates. The thing that I was most pleased with was how well he defended (Justin) Reed when we had to have stops. He did a very good job of keeping the ball away from him.”

Ole Miss Head Coach Rod Barnes:
“It was a pretty physical game. We played a lot of young kids and I thought they fought hard. You have to give Florida State a lot of credit. They have a good basketball team. Normally when we play teams and it’s that physical, we come out on top, but they did a great job of holding us off when we made some big shots.”

“Coach Hamilton has a good group of kids. They play hard and make you work for everything you get. I feel that our kids did a great job, we have seven or eight kids who have never been on a road trip, so to come to a place like this and play how we did, I thought we did a good job.”

“We thought that we would play a zone to try to buy some time and make some other guys besides Pickett shoot the ball. We knew that they had some guys who could shoot, but he’s the kind of guy that if he gets on fire you can’t stop him.”

“We have not played for 40 minutes. We told them that if we keep the game in striking distance with four or fives minutes left then we may have a chance to win. We’re a young team and we haven’t played together that much, but I think we found ourselves while the game was going on and we’re a team that got better tonight.”
