Oct. 5, 2010
The Florida State women’s basketball program began its 2010-11 season on Monday, Oct. 4 with the first official practice of the season.
Despite losing First Team All-ACC selection and highest-ever WNBA draft selection Jacinta Monroe, as well as standouts Angel Gray and Alysha Harvin, this year’s team boasts an impressive mixture of savy veterans and talented freshmen.
Head coach Sue Semrau has welcomed first-year players Natasha Howard, Tay’ler Mingo, Lauren Coleman and Olivia Bresnhan and each figures to play an important role on this year’s squad. They are joined by returners Cierra Bravard, Christian Hunnicutt, Alexa Deluzio, Leonor Rodriguez, Chelsea Davis, Chasity Clayton and one of the nation’s top point guards in Courtney Ward.
The Seminoles will continue practicing through the month of October with the exhibition game set to take place at the Donald L. Tucker Center on Oct. 24 against Alabama-Huntsville. FSU then opens the regular season with a home game against Alabama State on Nov. 12.
