GREENSBORO, N.C. (Seminoles.com) – Florida State senior forward Cierra Bravard was selected to the Preseason All-ACC Team and the Seminole women’s basketball team was picked to finish fourth in the league, the ACC announced on Tuesday.
Bravard is joined on the preseason all-conference squad by Miami senior guards Shenise Johnson and Riquna Williams and Maryland’s Lynetta Kizer, a senior forward, and Alyssa Thomas, a sophomore forward.
The Hurricanes were picked to finish first in the conference, capturing 30 of 40 votes. Duke was picked second, capturing the other 10 votes, while Maryland, Florida State and Georgia Tech rounded out the top-five.
The predictions were made by a vote of the Blue Ribbon Panel, consisting of national and local media, as well as school representatives.
Bravard led FSU in scoring (15.0 ppg), rebounding (7.8 rpg), field goal percentage (54.5 percent) and blocks (27) in 2010-11 en route to All-ACC First Team honors and honorable mention All-America accolades from the WBCA. A weapon at the charity stripe, Bravard led the ACC in free throws made with 156.
The ACC honor adds to a growing list of preseason awards for the 6-4 Sandusky, Ohio, native. Bravard was named a preseason First Team All-American by the Sporting News as well as a member of the Wade Award and Wooden Award Watch Lists.
The Seminoles finished third in the ACC in 2010-11, compiling an 11-3 ACC mark. FSU tied for first in the conference in 2009 and 2010 and the squad’s 35 conference wins over the past three years are tied for the most in the ACC with Duke over that span.
FSU advanced to its seventh straight NCAA Tournament in 2010-11, capturing a three-seed for the second consecutive season, and finished with a 24-8 record. In addition to Bravard, FSU returns starters Alexa Deluzio and Natasha Howard.
Deluzio averaged 12.0 ppg and led the conference in three-point shooting in ACC Play (49.0 percent) a year ago, while Howard was named to the All-ACC Freshman Team.
The Seminoles kick off the season with a 2 p.m. exhibition contest against Florida Southern on Nov. 5 at the Donald L. Tucker Center. Florida State opens the regular season from Nov. 11-13 at the WBI Tipoff Classic in Daytona Beach, Fla. FSU will face USF, Arkansas and Minnesota at the early-season event.
