Q&A With Junior Post Hannah Linquist

Jan. 23, 2005

Junior post Hannah Linquist has played in 18 games for the Seminoles this season and is having a very productive year. The Swannanoa, N.C., native scored a career-high 10 points in the FAMU win and had a season-high six rebounds in the Xavier victory. She really used her height to her advantage when she recorded three blocks in the FAU game. Linquist played a career-high 21 minutes in the Miami Ohio game and has seen double digit minutes in 10 games this season.

Sports Information intern Derick Thornton sat down with Linquist and asked her these questions:

Compare this year’s start to previous years.
“This year we are playing a lot better as a team. We all know our roles on the team. We have moved from a different style of defense also. Now we are playing more of a pressure defense.”

What is your role on the team this year?
“We are playing mostly a five-guard start, then we bring in the three big post players to be a little more physical in the post and get the ball inside and make some good moves. I also encourage the team as always.”

How is “Phase Two” working this year?
“Phase Two is a lot different from last year. This year is about being more time-committed, more committed to the team and being more committed to the program as a whole and doing the extra things like watching film more and working on your shot.”

How far can “Phase Two” take this team?
“We always try to make it far into the ACC tournament, but right now we need to keep working on what we’ve been working on. Depending on how we finish in the ACC will determine whether we will make it into the NCAA tournament and that is another big goal of Phase Two. That is what we are striving for, though we do take each game as an individual game.”

What do you like best about playing basketball?
“I like being with the team. We really get along well together. As far as basketball, I really like the competition, just getting out there and the desire and eagerness to win.”

What do you like to do in your spare time?
“I like to go shopping. I don’t like to just get one thing. I like to get the whole outfit. I also like to eat, sleep and go to the movies.”

The team has done some traveling this season. In your opinion, which has been the best trip?
“I really enjoyed Puerto Rico just because it was a new culture and I had never been somewhere where they spoke a different language. That was really cool. It was just a beautiful place to go. The beaches were awesome.”
